Come, everyone who thirsts. Come to the waters.

We come, O God, hungry and thirsty for your grace.

You who have no money, come, buy and eat!

We come with empty hands, trusting your abundance.

Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

We come to feast at your table, where all are welcome.

The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Let us worship the God who satisfies our deepest hunger.

Prayer of Confession (unison)                                         

Merciful God, we confess that we have forgotten your abundance. We have worried more about our own fullness than our neighbor's emptiness. We have turned the feast of grace into a private snack. We have clutched our loaves and fishes, afraid that if we share them, we will have too little. Forgive our scarcity mindset. Forgive our selfishness. Forgive us for making your table smaller than it is. Teach us to trust that when we place what little we have into your hands, you can do more than we imagine. Teach us to break bread with glad and generous hearts. Make us a people who eat with the kind of abandon that comes from knowing there is always more than enough in your kingdom. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

 

And when we turned away, when we made your table too small and your grace too expensive, you did not abandon us. You sent Jesus, who fed the multitudes with five loaves and two fish, who ate with sinners and tax collectors, who broke bread with strangers and made them friends. He took what was offered, blessed it, broke it, and gave it away. And where there was scarcity, there was abundance. Where there was fear, there was feast.

And so, with your people in every time and place, with the faithful of every generation, with the boy who offered his lunch and the disciples who passed the bread, we praise your name:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

 

Holy God, we remember that on the night before Jesus died, he gathered with his friends to share a meal. He took bread, and after giving thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying: "Take, eat. This is my body, broken for you.”

We remember his death. We proclaim his resurrection. We await his coming in glory.

 

In the same way, after supper, he took the cup, saying: "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, poured out for you. Drink from it, all of you.”

Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us, we pray, and upon this bread and cup, this food and drink we share. Make them signs of your presence. Make them connections between us. Make this table a place where strangers become companions, where the broken are made whole, and where the empty are filled. Unite us with Christ and with one another, in this meal and in all our meals, until we gather at your heavenly table where hunger is no more and all tears are wiped away.

Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor are yours, Almighty God, now and forever. Amen.

 

The Blessing of the Food

The Lord is gracious and merciful.

The Lord is good to all.

 

God of abundance, we thank you for this food. Bless these loaves and cups, these fruits and grains, these simple gifts that we bring. Make them signs of your presence. Make them connections between us. As we eat together, let us taste not only the food, but the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you: fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life.

Prayer of Thanksgiving (Unison)

God of the feast, we have eaten, and we are satisfied. We have shared, and we are connected. We have remembered, and we are grateful.

You did not ask us to bring more than we had. You asked us to bring what we had; our five loaves, our two fish, our small and broken lives, and you made them enough. You made them more than enough.

Send us from this table as a people who have been fed. Send us to feed others. Send us to break bread with the lonely, to share our abundance with the poor, to eat with our enemies, and to invite the stranger to sit beside us.

We pray in the name of Jesus, who is the Bread of Life, the Host at this Table, and Our Closest Friend. Amen.
