Greetings

Open Scripture                     1 Kings 19:9-18

The Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God.

Call to Worship

The Lord is good; God's steadfast love endures forever.

We give thanks to the Lord, and call on God's name.

The Lord is our strength and our salvation.

We seek the Lord's presence with glad hearts.

But God is not always in the wind, or the earthquake, or the fire.

God is in the still, small voice that speaks to weary hearts.

Come, let us worship the God who meets us in the storm.

Let us worship God!

Hymn of Welcome - Stand Up For Jesus

Psalm 105:1-6, 16-22, 45b

Opening Prayer

Holy God, you meet us in the cave and on the sea. You walk across the chaos and whisper in the silence. As we gather this morning, quiet the noise within us. Steady our hearts. Open our ears to hear your voice, and our eyes to see your hand reaching out to us. In the name of Jesus Christ, who walks on water and speaks in the storm, we pray. Amen.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (unison)

Gracious God, you hear our cries for mercy. You know our exhaustion, our cynicism, our sense of defeat. But we are quick to lose perspective. We let the wind fill our eyes with doubt. We trade our birthright of faith for a bowl of fear. We think we are the only ones left, and we forget that you are here. Forgive us, O Lord. Reach out your hand and catch us. Give us ears to hear your voice above the storm, and courage to keep walking toward you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Gloria Patri

Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Prayer for Illumination (unison)

Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us. Open us to your life-giving Word. Quiet the voices within us that do not align with your will. Focus our minds on the message you intend for us, so we may faithfully discern your way. Amen.

Gospel Reading                     Matthew 14:22-33

Sermon

The Voice After the Storm

Rev. Tony DeLucia

Hymn of Response - The Sweetest Name Of All

Affirmation of Faith                         Brief Statement of Faith

We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life.

The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church.

The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the Church.

In a broken and fearful world, the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
