Prelude
Greetings
- Hymns today are in the Blue Hymnal
Open Scripture Jonah 3:10-4:11
The Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
Call to Worship Psalm 145 and Jonah 4
Every day we will bless you, O God,
and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
God's greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall laud your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
For the Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
Come, let us worship the God whose mercy is wider than our welcome.
Let us worship God!
Hymn of Welcome
Praise To The Lord The Almighty
Psalm 145:1-8
Opening Prayer (unison)
Gracious and merciful God, you are slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and not only toward us. You are merciful to the people we have written off, generous to the ones who came late, patient with the city we would rather see burn. Widen our hearts this morning. Loosen our grip on who deserves what. Teach us to praise you not only for the mercy we have received but for the mercy you pour out on others. Meet us here, and make this hour a place where your goodness is greater than our grumbling. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession (unison)
Generous God, we confess that we have made your grace into a wage. We measure who has worked longest, suffered most, and earned the right to your blessing - and we are always sure the accounting favors us. Like Jonah, we would rather be right than see our enemies redeemed. Like the laborers hired at dawn, we begrudge your kindness to those who came after us. Forgive our bitter arithmetic. Enlarge our hearts to match your mercy, that we might rejoice when you are good to people we do not love. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Gloria Patri
Passing of the Peace
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.
Prayer for Illumination (unison)
God of the unsearchable heart, your ways are not our ways and your generosity offends our sense of order. By your Spirit, open us to a Word we may not want to hear. Do not let us leave here unchanged. Speak, Lord, and give us the courage to listen. Amen.
Gospel Reading Matthew 20:1-16
The Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God.

Hymn of Response
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Affirmation of Faith Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Invitation To The Offering
Doxology
Prayer of Dedication (unison)
God of the vineyard, you have given us work to do and a wage we never earned. Receive these gifts, and receive us with them. Use what we offer to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, and make your abundance visible in a world convinced there is not enough to go around. Amen.
Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer (responsive)
The people are invited to respond to each petition:
One: Gracious and merciful God
All: abound in steadfast love.
