Greetings

Open Scripture

Exodus 32:1-14

The Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God.

Call to Worship                                 Philippians 4 and Matthew 22

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.

The Lord is near.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus.

The kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. Everything is ready - the feast is prepared, and the hall is being filled.

We have come from the main streets, invited by grace, both good and bad, gathered to one table.

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable.

Let us think on these things, and worship the God of peace!

Hymn of Welcome #592

Jesus Calls Us

Psalter                                                   Psalm 106:1-6, 19-23

Praise the LORD! O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Who can utter the mighty doings of the LORD, or declare all his praise?

Happy are those who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times.

Remember us, O LORD, when you show favor to your people; help us when you deliver them;

That we may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, that we may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, that we may glory in your heritage.

Both we and our ancestors have sinned; we have committed iniquity, have done wickedly.

They made a calf at Horeb and worshiped a cast image.

They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass.

They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt,

Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.

Therefore he said he would destroy them - had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him,

To turn away his wrath from destroying them. Praise the Lord!

Opening Prayer

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (unison)

Merciful God, we confess that we grow weary in the waiting. When your answers are slow, we have made our own gods - of wealth, of nation, of certainty, of ourselves - and called them by your name. We have built altars to what we already wanted and wrapped our rebellion in the language of worship. We have been anxious about everything and prayerful about almost nothing. Forgive us. Stand in the breach for us, as Christ stood for us, and turn our hearts back to you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Gloria Patri

Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Prayer for Illumination

God of the mountain and the banquet, your word cuts through our impatience and our excuses. As the scriptures are read, expose our calves and show us your glory. Make your law a lamp to our feet, your gospel a feast for our hungers, and your peace a guard over our hearts and minds. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.

Second Reading                                Philippians 4:1-9

The Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God.

Gospel Reading                                 Matthew 22:1-14

This is the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Hymn of Response

Here I Am,  Lord

Affirmation of Faith                         The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Call for the Offering

Doxology

Prayer of Dedication (unison)

God of the mountain and the feast, receive these gifts and the hearts that bring them. Where we have hoarded, make us generous; where we have traded your glory for what eats grass, teach us to give again. Use these offerings to stand in the breach for the hungry, the lonely, and the left behind, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
