Prelude

Greetings

-Hymns today can be found in the Red Hymnal

Opening Scripture   Numbers 11:24-30

Call to Worship

We come today from many places.
From Weirton and Newell. From Chester and East Liverpool. Even all the way from Austintown.
From different homes, different weeks, different burdens.
But today we are gathered in one place.
On the day of Pentecost, pilgrims had come to Jerusalem from every nation
People in whose languages the wonders of God were being declared.
And the Spirit fell on all of them.
The Spirit falls on all of us.
The Spirit of God has not retired.
The Spirit is still being poured out.
On sons and daughters. On young and old.
On every kind of person, in every kind of place.
Come, let us worship the God who speaks every language
including ours.

Hymn of Welcome #21           O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing

Psalm  104:24-34, 35b

Opening Prayer (Unison)

Almighty God, we come to you as people who need what only you can give. We have heard the stories - wind and fire, languages spoken, barriers crossed, ordinary people made bold by your Spirit. We want that. And we are a little afraid of it. So meet us here, just as we are. Open our ears to hear your Word freshly. Open our hearts to be changed by it. Open our hands to the world you love - all flesh, every kind of person your Spirit is already moving among. Come, Holy Spirit. Come as wind. Come as fire. Come as the courage we don't yet have. We are yours. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Call To Confession

Prayer Of Confession (Unison)

Holy God, you poured out your Spirit on all flesh, on the counted-in and the counted-out. But we confess that we have not always lived in the freedom of that promise. We have waited for others to come to us rather than entering their world. We have expected the community to learn our language before we would speak with them. We have preferred the familiar fire to the disorienting wind. We have asked you to confirm what we already believe rather than lead us into what we do not understand. We have chosen the comfortable over the uncomfortable. Forgive us, Lord. Pour out your Spirit again. On all of us. Teach us to follow where you have already gone. Through Christ, who makes us new. Amen.

Assurance Of Pardon

Gloria Patri

Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.

Prayer Of Illumination (Unison)

Open our hearts and minds by the power of your Spirit, Holy God, that we might hear and receive the message you intend for us today. Amen.

Scripture                   Acts 2:1-21

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon           "What Does This Mean?”             Rev. Tony DeLucia

Hymn of Response #29           Begin, My Tongue, My Heavenly Theme

Affirmation of Faith

We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life.
The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves
and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers
in the one body of Christ, the Church.
The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles
rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture,
engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism,
feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation.
In a broken and fearful world, the Spirit gives us courage
to pray without ceasing,
to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior,
to unmask idolatries in Church and culture,
to hear the voices of peoples long silenced.
With believers in every time and place,
we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God
in Christ Jesus our Lord. Alleluia. Amen.

Call For the Offering
